The Founder’s Edit: Current Obsessions

As the season shifts, our founder shares a few things currently inspiring her—objects, rituals, and small luxuries that bring a sense of comfort, creativity, and vitality to everyday life.

At Materie, we believe inspiration begins in the everyday—the rituals that shape our mornings, the textures we touch, and the objects that bring quiet joy into our homes. As the season changes, we hope these notes from Nicole inspire your own moments of intention and warmth.

1. Morning Ritual
As the weather cools, my mornings now begin with a comforting cup of hot cacao with a shot of espresso. It’s the perfect balance of warmth and energy—a ritual I look forward to each day.

2. Nourishing Soup Routine
I recently subscribed to a weekly CSA box from Produce Smuggler, and it’s been such a refreshing way to cook with ingredients I might not otherwise buy. By week’s end, I gather what’s left to make a nourishing soup—olive oil, shallots, ginger, red pepper flakes, and hearty vegetables like carrots, squash, or celery. Once softened, I add greens, herbs, broth, and a squeeze of lemon before serving with warm sourdough and a touch of parmesan. It’s become a cozy end-of-week ritual.

3. Everyday Essentials, Elevated
The Stuck Centerpiece catchall has become indispensable in our home. It’s the landing spot for keys, wallets, chargers—those daily essentials that tend to disappear without a designated place.

4. Hair Health Focus
Lately, I’ve been more intentional about caring for my hair. I do a castor oil treatment a few times a month and use the beautifully scented shampoo and conditioner from Suite Reyad, followed by ROZ Hair Milk Serum before styling.

5. Dreaming of Japan
I’m currently planning a winter trip to Japan for my family and discovered this stunning home rental site featuring distinct stays in Kyoto. The architecture and atmosphere have me endlessly inspired—serene spaces where craftsmanship and simplicity coexist.

6. Travel Uniform
For work trips, I’ve been living in these Tibi pants. The fabric is light, easy to pack, and looks effortless. I’m debating a second pair—perhaps in another color or the cropped version.

7. Reading Material
Design Anthology remains one of my favorite publications for design, art, and travel inspiration. Every issue feels like a quiet, visual escape.

8. Signature Scent
I always come back to Le Labo Rose 31—a scent that feels both grounding and sophisticated.

9. Immune Support
To support my immune system as the weather turns, I’ve been consistent with this vitamin C supplement—it’s a simple way to stay nourished and balanced.

10. A Meaningful Gift
For my 40th birthday, a group of dear friends gifted me this pair of earrings that I now wear every day—a constant reminder of love, friendship, and connection.
